East Lansing
May 16th
The JV Mustangs came out strong last night against the Trojans in
East Lansing. The first goal
was made by Freshman Ami Parke.
The next goal would go to
Sophomore Katie Hamilton. The
Mustangs had several shots on
goal, but only two got through
the goalie before the first half
ended. The score was 2-0 going
into half time. The Mustangs
fought hard again in the second
half. Freshman Danielle Jimenez
would make the next goal of the
game. The next goal was a cross
from Sophomore Taylor Nemeth to
Ami Parke who put the ball in
the net. The final goal of the
game would be a pass through the
middle from Freshman Lindsay
Shafer to Hamilton and Hamilton
buried the ball in the net.
Once again the defense and
goalie held off the Trojans for
another shut out. The game
ended 5-0.

Niles
May 14th
The JV Mustangs played another great game last night against the
Niles Vikings. The first goal
of the game was a pass from
Sophomore Taylor Nemeth to
Freshman Ami Parke who ran
inside and put the ball in the
net. Freshman Danielle Jimenez
would score the next goal
putting the ball in the left
corner off of the post. The
next goal was made again by
Parke who had a right shot over
the Vikings keeper. Freshman
Shelby Jarvis (Happy Birthday)
scored the next goal with a left
foot shot over the keeper. The
next goal was a support pass
from Jimenez to Freshman Cayla
Lentz who shot at the 20 yard
line and dropped the ball into
the left corner. Sophomore
Katie Hamilton would dribbled
the ball through the middle and
went one on one with the goalie
and put the ball in for another
goal. The last goal before the
half was a cross from Freshman
Colleen Unsworth to Hamilton who
shot the ball in. The score was
7-0 going into half time. It
didn't take long for the
Mustangs to mercy the Vikings in
the second half. The last goal
of the game was by Lentz who
dribbled the ball through the
middle for a left foot shot into
the right corner. The game then
ended in a mercy of 8-0. The
defense and goalies once again
had another shot out. Way to
go!

Mattawan
May
12th
The JV Mustangs traveled to Mattawan on Friday with hopes of some
competition. Both teams started
out strong but the Mustangs took
control. In the first half
goals were scored by Jiminez
(1), Parke (2), and Hamilton
(1). The assists were made by
Lentz (1), Jarvis (2), and Jiminez
(1). The score was 4-0 going
into half time. The second half
Mattawan came out fighting and
scored on the Mustangs. The
Mustangs fought back and Sokolowski
scored on a corner kick by
Lentz. The next goal was a great
cross from Jarvis to Sandmeyer
who headed the ball in near post
for a great goal. The Mustang
defense Luginbill, LaPine,
Sokolowski, and Westley fought
hard and kept Mattawan from
scoring again. The coaches said
defender Luginbill had her best
game of the season. The
Mustangs played some great
soccer. The game ended with a
score of 6-1.
Vicksburg
May 9th
The JV Mustangs once again
mercied another team. The
Mustangs fought hard and won 8-0
against the Bulldogs. The
Bulldogs had a chance to score
on the Mustangs with a penalty
kick, but Freshman Mara Bennett
was not going to let that
happen. Bennett had an awesome
save and another shut out. The
goals of the game go to Hamilton
(3), Shafer (2), Parke (1),
Jarvis (1), and Unsworth (1).
Hamilton had 2 assists. Great
job, Mustangs!

BC
Lakeview
May 5th
The JV Mustangs had perfect weather for
their game at home against BC Lakeview.
This is the second time the Mustangs
have played Lakeview and once again they
mercied them 8-0. The first goal of the
game was a corner kick made by Freshman
Cayla Lentz and Sophomore Kelsey Cubbage shot
the ball in over the goalie's head. The
next goal was a low kick into the left
corner of the net by Freshman
Ami Parke. Sophomore Katie Hamilton
crossed a great ball to Freshman Lindsay
Shafer who placed the ball into the net
for the next goal. Hamilton brought the
ball down the right side again and
crossed the ball to Parke for another
goal just before halftime. The score
was 4-0 going into half time. The first
goal of the second half was a corner
kick by Lentz and the goalie mishandled
the ball and Parke knocked the ball in.
For the next goal, Lentz took a shot
that hit the crossbar and Parke followed
up and put the ball in. Freshman Maddie
Sandmeyer took the ball down the right
side and crossed the ball to Freshman
Shelby Jarvis and Jarvis placed the ball
in the net. The last goal of the night
was by Hamilton who dribbled the ball
down the field and shot the ball in the
net. The game ended in a win of 8-0.

Kalamazoo Central
April 28th
The JV Mustangs had no trouble scoring
last night at their game against
Kalamazoo Central. The cold, rainy
weather didn't seem to slow the Mustangs
down at all. The first goal of the game
was made by Sophomore Kelsey Cubbage
with a chip into the goal just outside
the penalty box. Shortly
after Sophomore Shelby Tieche touched
the ball in after a corner kick bounced
off of a Giants player in front of the
net. The next goal would be made by
Jarvis again after Freshman Maddie
Sandmeyer crossed the ball to Jarvis and
Jarvis volleyed the ball into the net.
Sophomore Katie Hamilton had a great
right cross to the net and the goalie
fumbled the ball and Freshman Ami Parke
followed the ball in. The next goal was
a shot from Parke the hit off the left
post and followed in by Sophomore Taylor
Nemeth for a left foot shot. The last
goal before half time was another cross
from Sandmeyer to Jarvis and Jarvis put
the ball into the net. The score was
6-0 going into half time. The Mustangs
started strong and scored soon into the
second half. Cubbage had a right cross
to Freshman Danielle Jimenez and Jimenez
trapped the ball and shot it into the
net. The last goal of the night
was another cross from Cubbage to
Sophomore Emily Fuller who put the ball
in the net. The game was then ended in
a mercy of 8-0.

East Grand Rapids
Friday April 26th
The JV Mustangs traveled to East Grand Rapids for their game on
Friday. East Grand Rapids gave the
Mustangs some good competition. The
first goal of the game was made by
Sophomore Taylor Nemeth with a shot in
front of the goal into the corner.
The Mustangs played hard and held off
East Grand Rapids in the first
half. The score was 1-0 going into half
time. The Mustang defense was working
hard at keeping East Grand Rapids from
scoring but into the second half EGR got
a shot off and put it into the net. The
Mustangs fought back and scored
again when Freshman Cayla Lentz kicked a
corner kick and Freshman Danielle
Jimenez placed the ball in the net. EGR
was not able to get through our
defense and the game ended with a win
for Portage Central. The final score
was 2-1.

Northern
April 21st
The JV
Mustangs shut out the Huskies
last night 7-0. It was a
perfect night for soccer. The
Mustangs started out strong.
The first goal of the night went
to Freshman Shelby Jarvis with a
great pass from Sophomore Katie
Hamilton. Shortly after that
Hamilton did a pass back to
Freshman Cayla Lentz and Lentz
hit the ball from the 22 yard
line and nailed the ball into
the back of the net. The next
goal was placed in the net by
Freshman Lindsay Shafer. The
last goal scored before half
time was made by Lentz when her
shot hit one of the Husky
defenders and went in the net.
The Mustangs were up 4-0 going
into halftime. The Mustangs
started the second half full
force. The first goal of the
second half was a pass from
Jarvis to Freshman Maddie
Sandmeyer who placed the ball
into the left corner. The next
goal was another great pass from
Jarvis to Sophomore Taylor
Nemeth who took the ball down
the left side and drove the ball
into the back of the net. The
last goal of the night was a
great corner kick from Lentz and
Freshman Megan Sokolowski headed
it into the net. The defenders
once again had another shut
out. The Mustangs ended the
game strong just as they
started. The game ended with a
score of 7-0.

Forest Hills Central
April 2nd
The JV Mustangs had
some tough competition against Forest
Hills Central last night. Forest Hills
started out strong and scored in the
first minute of the game. This was a
wake up call for the Mustangs. They
stepped it up and wouldn't back down.
The Mustangs finally scored in the first
half when freshman Shelby Jarvis tapped
the ball in the right corner. The score
was 1-1 going into half time. Both
teams started out strong the second
half. It was tough to get by the
defense for both teams. Goalie Mara
Bennett had some awesome saves. Neither
team was able to score a goal in the
second half. The game ended in a tie
1-1.

Battle Creek Lakeview
Monday, May 31st
The JV
Mustangs have started the season out strong.
They had their first home game last night
against Battle Creek Lakeview. The first goal
of the game was by freshman Meghan Sokolowski
pushing up from defense with a great shot in the
back of the net. The Mustangs had great passing
and the next goal was a cross from freshman
Colleen Unsworth to freshman Maddie Sandmeyer
who put the ball in for a score of 2-0. The
next goal would go to freshman Ami Parke who
shot the ball in after a deflection off of the
goalie. The Mustangs never backed down. Before
first half was over, freshman Alayna LaPine
crossed the ball to Sandmeyer who headed the
ball into the back of the net. It was a great
play. The Mustangs were up 4-0 going into half
time. The girls started out strong again in the
second half. The next goal of the game was a
cross from freshman Cayla Lentz to Sophomore
Katie Hamilton who shot the ball and placed it
top corner in the net. The next goal was
another great cross from Sandmeyer to freshman
Shelby Jarvis who notched the ball into the
goal. Putting the score at 6-0. Freshman
Danielle Jimenez would make the next goal of the
night with an assist by sophomore Emily Fuller.
The final goal of the game was by sophomore
Kelsey Cubbage and the game then ended in a
mercy of 8-0. The defense played by sophomore
Taylor Luginbill and freshmen Meghan Sokolowski,
Alayna Lapine and Chloe Westley secured the shut
out for the night.
